Macro Specialist

Small Subjects. Big Impact.

Emmy-winning wildlife macro expertise, applied to every industry. If it's small and needs to look extraordinary on screen, you've found the right person.

The wildlife advantage

Trained on the Hardest Subjects on Earth

Most macro photographers learn on products that sit still. I learned on insects that fly, hide, fight, and — occasionally — try to kill me. When your subject cooperates, the results are extraordinary.

How it works

The Process

1

Discovery Call

We discuss what you need filmed, the scale, the context, and the end use. I'll recommend the right approach — whether that's a simple tabletop setup or a full controlled-environment shoot.

2

Technical Planning

Macro work is technical work. I'll plan the lens selection, lighting rig, focus strategy, and any motion control needed. No surprises on the day.

3

The Shoot

Patient, precise, and methodical. At macro scale, millimetres matter. I bring the wildlife cameraman's discipline — wait for the perfect frame, then capture it flawlessly.

4

Post-Production

Focus stacking, colour grading, editing, and delivery. Two rounds of revisions included as standard. Your macro content, ready to deploy.

Questions

FAQ

What subjects can you film at macro scale?

Anything. I've filmed insects mid-flight, spiders building webs underwater, and parasitic wasps so small they're invisible to the naked eye. Jewellery, miniatures, circuit boards, food, machine components, medical devices — if it's small and needs to look incredible on screen, I can film it.

What equipment do you use for macro work?

I use specialist macro lenses including probe lenses (the 'Laowa' style lenses you see in high-end productions), cinema-grade cameras, focus stacking rigs for pin-sharp imagery, and custom lighting setups designed specifically for close-up work. The kit depends on the subject — I'll recommend the right approach after our initial conversation.

Can you work on-location or do you need a studio?

Both. I have a portable studio setup that can be deployed anywhere — your factory floor, your showroom, your workshop. For maximum control I can also work from a dedicated studio environment. Many macro shoots benefit from controlled lighting and minimal vibration, so I'll advise on the best setup for your specific needs.

How is macro filming different from normal video production?

At macro scale, everything is magnified — including problems. Camera shake becomes an earthquake. A speck of dust becomes a boulder. Focus depth shrinks to fractions of a millimetre. You need someone who works at this scale every day and has solved these problems thousands of times. That's what a decade of wildlife macro gives you.

What about VAT?

As a sole trader, I'm not VAT registered. This means you pay exactly what's quoted — no additional 20% on top. The prices you see are the prices you pay.

Do you travel for macro work?

Yes. I regularly work across the UK and internationally. Travel costs and accommodation are charged at cost for locations outside Bristol. I hold a US passport which makes international crew work straightforward.

Let's talk

Got something small that needs to look big?

Whether it's a product launch, a miniatures showcase, an engineering demo, or anything else that needs filming at close range — let's talk. No obligation, just a conversation.
